This chair belongs to a private client and is currently undergoing treatment. The brief is to clean it, restore the frame, and tone the losses.
Challenges: Reattaching the delaminated frame and removing the mould without damaging the paint.
To assess the condition, photographs have been taken with reflective white light and UV light. To understand the composition of the paint layers and materials, samples have been taken for cross sections, FTIR, dispersions, and micro-chemical tests.
The first stage has been to consolidate the paint, as it was actively flaking, followed by humidifying the delaminated section and reattaching it.
The next steps will be to clean, fill, and tone the losses.
