The brief was to clean it, restore the frame, and tone the losses.
Challenges: Reattaching the delaminated frame and removing the mould without damaging the paint.
To assess the condition, photographs were with reflective white light and UV light. To understand the composition of the paint layers and materials, samples were taken for cross sections, FTIR, dispersions, and micro-chemical tests.
The first stage was to consolidate the paint, as it was actively flaking, followed by humidifying the delaminated section and reattaching it.
The next steps were to clean, fill, and tone the losses.
