Royal Astronomical Society: Monthly meeting lecture and exhibition

I will be giving a joint lecture with Professor Arthur I. Miller. We will also exhibit three astronomical inspired objects that I created based on our collaboration.

Weaving the Universe - Abstract

Artists use mathematical models of black holes developed from data taken by space telescopes to give us some idea of what these mysterious objects actually look like. They have produced amazing images of objects which are impossible to perceive and enormously far away from us. But what has been missing are visual representations that evoke their frightening grandeur and the poetry behind them. Towards that goal artist Fiorella Lavado and scientist Arthur I. Miller have been working together, in an artist-scientist collaboration.

Together we explore representations of nature that go beyond scientific visualisations.

Fiorella Lavado: Into The Unknown

I will give an informal talk about my work, the process and the journey that has led me to a multidisciplinary approach. I have been travelling and living in a variety of countries since leaving Peru in 2002; ultimately landing in London where I discovered the mysterious world of quantum physics.

A performance piece will accompany the talk.

From 7:00pm to 8:30pm

WHERE: The Travel Bookshop
13-15 Blenheim Crescent
Notting Hill

Jung and Pauli, a lecture for the Crucible Alumni Day

A very interesting event organised by NESTA that brought together a truly interdisciplinary group of people. NESTA is the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts.

Together with Arthur I. Miller, we presented The Strange Collaboration of Wolfgang Pauli and Carl Jung: When Physics Met Psychology. This was another version of the lecture we gave at the University of Oxford in June 2009.

The dreams of Pauli are evolving. More to come...

Benaki Museum, Athens: A Journey to the Depths of the Universe

Event organised by the National Observatory of Athens and the French Institute, within the framework of the 2009 International Year of Astronomy (International Astronomical Union, IAU).

I presented Into the Crucibles of Nature, an art-science collaboration with Professor Arthur I. Miller. We gave a joint lecture about our work and we exhibited the pieces that I created inspired by Arthur's books and our conversations.
